Week 35 card & a journal page….

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

I have been playing for alot of different techniques this week in my art journal….between some quilting projects.  I carried one over to this week’s card of the 52 Questions.  The question for Week 35 is: What kind of Goddess am I?

For this week’s card I sanded then added a layer of Gesso.  Then, I had some acrylic paint leftover from the project below (it was the bottom layer), so I painted it over the Gesso then quickly smooched some plastic food wrap onto it.  I was told that you can’t do it with acrylic paints, that it had to be watercolour….well I did it!!  It is coming into my favourite season of the year……so I painted some Lutradur with copper, gold & green Lumiere paints, even the back.  When it was dry, I cut the leaves freehand and then sewed them onto the card.  The tag was an oldie, I sprayed it with Olive green glimmer mist I made.  Once dry, I first printed in pencil, then used a black Zig Millenium over top.  I wasn’t sure if the zig marker would work straight onto the sprayed surface, so that is why I used pencil first.

This art journal page spread is before I wrote on it……I started with gesso, then painted acrylic paint before doing a rough image transfer method like Leslie Herger has in her video HERE. I used some old National Geographic magazines, then added Watercolor Wonder crayons( Stampin’ Up!), & Portfolio oil pastels, gessoed (one side not all over & the other side all over…..I like the left side better).  I then rubbed some more Watercolor Wonder crayons and the last touch was my homemade glimmer mists.  The final step once its all dry is to sand it so you can write on it.

YES, homemade glimmer mist…….I finally found some little misters at the dollar store this past week when we did the monthly shopping.

I filled the bottles with equal parts of water and rubbing alcohol, then I added some colour with SU dye re-inkers that I have on hand.  Before add the pearl ex powders, spray the coloured solution, to see if its dark enough for you.  Then, I added about 1/8 teaspoon of Pearl Ex powders in each bottle. Shake lightly making sure to mix all the Pearl Ex powders in.

I tried to photograph the shimmer but it didn’t show up in any of the pictures .

Now you have something to make with all those pearl ex powders you have had in your stash for years.

and the last one today is Kristina Werner’s August cards for the Year in Cards class she does for Two Peas.  She does a video of making, has a pdf for them etc.  Check out her Finally Friday card and her Make a Card Monday.

Some ramblings…

A regular blog reader asked the other day when I was going to show another 9 am photo from my front porch…..Here you go!

For those new to reading my blog, I used to do a 9 am shot quite regularly – showed the seasons & the weather.  We NEED the hedge trimmed – probably won’t happen until our son comes for a visit next month.

Its going to be a scorcher today!  Can feel it already….

Wondering how productive I’m going to be today on only 3 hours sleep…..was playing in my studio until 4:55 AM.  I LOVE what I see in there this morning!  Will go back up once breakfast, coffee & treadmill time is over.

The Sears wishbook arrived yesterday….I swear it comes earlier & earlier every year!  DH flipped through it but I only opened it where all the cameras & camcorders are.  I start from the back of the catalogue – thought I was the weird one until I kept reading alot of people do that…..DO YOU?

I stopped listening to the news and don’t read the newspaper anymore…..I AM A MUCH HAPPIER PERSON!  I do read headlines on the internet, and only go read further if something interests me.  I don’t get ticked at the stupid people out there or wonder why the legal or political systems don’t work better……YES, a much happier place leaving all that crap to others to fret about.  LIFE IS TOO SHORT!!!

The Work of Art finale is this Saturday on Bravo Canada……people on Twitter & Facebook (US Bravo was 3 weeks ahead of us) already gave away the ending, but I still am enjoying seeing the challenges they have been doing and listening to the critics….even DH has been watching.  The only reality TV show I’ve watched in many years.  I have written down all the challenges they have been doing & I’m thinking of doing them myself – when?  We will see!

This year, I have been going through my notebook and checking off techniques/methods, etc. that I have wanted to try for a long time…No pressure, just play and I have come to enjoy just playing again.  So, what does this mean – means I will continue to not pressure myself with deadlines, events, etc.   Some will say I’m not a true artist if I don’t push my Art – I have posted pieces here on my blog and in my Etsy store, but that is about all the pushing I am going to be doing.

HAVE YOU PLAYED TODAY???

August Full Moon Dreamboard…

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Last night, was the August Full Moon…..I worked on my Full Moon dreamboard last night, as I was working on 2 other projects during the day.  Before I knew it, it was too late to photograph….so this morning here it is. Photo can be clicked for larger image.

This month I decided on concentrate on myself, no material things.  I want to empower myself to :

FEEL,

SMILE,

CREATE,

DREAM,

CONFIDENT,

FUN,

JUST BE YOURSELF,

MAKING SOMETHING GREAT,

REVEAL YOUR OWN STYLE,

SATISFY YOUR CRAVING FOR COLOUR EVERY MONTH,

BRING PEACE TO YOUR SOUL & EASE TO YOUR MIND,

SERENDIPITY,

WHAT’S INSIDE YOUR HOME THAT MATTERS,

TAKING THE PLUNGE.

and FRIENDS (be with them).

This page spread started out as the start of a journaling page, but I wasn’t liking the look of it…..the purple cutout at the bottom is from the start of that page……Its stamped, stenciled, painted with many layers, etc.
