Some ramblings…

Written by Dale Anne Potter on August 26th, 2010

A regular blog reader asked the other day when I was going to show another 9 am photo from my front porch…..Here you go!

For those new to reading my blog, I used to do a 9 am shot quite regularly – showed the seasons & the weather.  We NEED the hedge trimmed – probably won’t happen until our son comes for a visit next month.

Its going to be a scorcher today!  Can feel it already….

Wondering how productive I’m going to be today on only 3 hours sleep…..was playing in my studio until 4:55 AM.  I LOVE what I see in there this morning!  Will go back up once breakfast, coffee & treadmill time is over.

The Sears wishbook arrived yesterday….I swear it comes earlier & earlier every year!  DH flipped through it but I only opened it where all the cameras & camcorders are.  I start from the back of the catalogue – thought I was the weird one until I kept reading alot of people do that…..DO YOU?

I stopped listening to the news and don’t read the newspaper anymore…..I AM A MUCH HAPPIER PERSON!  I do read headlines on the internet, and only go read further if something interests me.  I don’t get ticked at the stupid people out there or wonder why the legal or political systems don’t work better……YES, a much happier place leaving all that crap to others to fret about.  LIFE IS TOO SHORT!!!

The Work of Art finale is this Saturday on Bravo Canada……people on Twitter & Facebook (US Bravo was 3 weeks ahead of us) already gave away the ending, but I still am enjoying seeing the challenges they have been doing and listening to the critics….even DH has been watching.  The only reality TV show I’ve watched in many years.  I have written down all the challenges they have been doing & I’m thinking of doing them myself – when?  We will see!

This year, I have been going through my notebook and checking off techniques/methods, etc. that I have wanted to try for a long time…No pressure, just play and I have come to enjoy just playing again.  So, what does this mean – means I will continue to not pressure myself with deadlines, events, etc.   Some will say I’m not a true artist if I don’t push my Art – I have posted pieces here on my blog and in my Etsy store, but that is about all the pushing I am going to be doing.

HAVE YOU PLAYED TODAY???

August Full Moon Dreamboard…

Written by Dale Anne Potter on August 25th, 2010

Last night, was the August Full Moon…..I worked on my Full Moon dreamboard last night, as I was working on 2 other projects during the day.  Before I knew it, it was too late to photograph….so this morning here it is. Photo can be clicked for larger image.

This month I decided on concentrate on myself, no material things.  I want to empower myself to :

FEEL,

SMILE,

CREATE,

DREAM,

CONFIDENT,

FUN,

JUST BE YOURSELF,

MAKING SOMETHING GREAT,

REVEAL YOUR OWN STYLE,

SATISFY YOUR CRAVING FOR COLOUR EVERY MONTH,

BRING PEACE TO YOUR SOUL & EASE TO YOUR MIND,

SERENDIPITY,

WHAT’S INSIDE YOUR HOME THAT MATTERS,

TAKING THE PLUNGE.

and FRIENDS (be with them).

This page spread started out as the start of a journaling page, but I wasn’t liking the look of it…..the purple cutout at the bottom is from the start of that page……Its stamped, stenciled, painted with many layers, etc.

New Workshops….

Written by Dale Anne Potter on August 24th, 2010

I have had more & more people ask me about teaching some techniques for ATCs and Fabric Postcards.  So, I thought mini workshops would inspire people to start making them.

Inspiring ATCs (Artist Trading Cards) – 1 hour $20

In this mini workshop, you will learn all about Artist Trading Cards.  The ATCs will be FUN & creative!  You will need only your sewing machine, sewing supplies & a scissors.  All other supplies are included in the workshop.

Could also be just paper, paint, etc. no sewing machine needed.

Introduction to Fabric Postcards – 3 hours $45

In this workshop, you will learn the construction of a simple FUN & Creative postcard ready to mail.  You will be fusing fabrics, adding some machine stitching and writing out the back of the postcard.

Both workshops are a good series of workshops to inspire you to work smaller or try NEW art without the expense of supplies. Future workshops would include fabric painting, hand stitching, freezer paper resist, trying different stitches on your sewing machine, & using recycled materials.

and the other FUN & CREATIVE workshop I am looking forward to teaching is:

Discover Yourself with Journaling – 2 days ( or 4 weeks for 3 hours a week) $150

This workshop is all about creating a visual diary. It’s an opportunity to express yourself not only with words, but also with colour, simple painting and/or collage techniques.  This is a great way to express yourself and record ideas or events for fun.  We start with a blank 8 X 8 inch board book.   Everything is included, you just have to show up every week. Each week will be jam packed with techniques, and journal prompts along with sampling of the many different art supplies that will be on hand each week.

Gather a bunch of friends (minimum 6 & maximum 20) and I will travel to your venue.

Or travel to Morse, Sk. and I will teach them at the Senior Centre on Main Street…..workshop dates forthcoming.
