Faces are something I had avoided drawing for years and years….being told in Grade 7 that Art was not my forte didn’t help (by a teacher no less)!
Anyway, I took a free workshop last fall with Willowing, and I have been drawing faces off & on ever since. I was intrigued by Inkwell‘s Faces Journal she showed us one morning on her stream HERE. I thought if I made myself a journal, it would remind me to fill it up with face drawings!
About a month ago, I took some watercolour paper – its 90 lb. weight, cut the pages in half and started painted them on both sides. This is the result.
I want to take the journal with me to Spain – for drawing on the planes or when I can’t sleep! So, yesterday, was the day to start thinking about a cover…..
I started by taking a piece of my hand-dyed fabrics, sewing the thread painted image onto it, and writing. It became stretched off kilt when I glued it all to the cardboard cover.
The leather scraps are from a box of samples I had found at a thrift store for $5, and this is the first time I’m using anything from that box. I knew they’d come in handy someday….LOL!
I’m HAPPY with it! You can view a video I did of it HERE.
