more info….

by Dale Anne Potter

I have been asked privately for more information……

I thought I had yet another kidney infection on Sept 23rd. got the pain under control in the hospital until Sept. 26th – YES, opening day of the Highway 1 Studio Tour.  Continued on antibiotics until Wed. Sept. 30th when I went back to the doctor – told him I think we need to try a different antibiotic as the one I was on wasn’t working as I was still feeling something in my left kidney.

So, Oct. 1st more tests, Xrays and I thought I could keep the pain under control with Tylenol – NOPE.  About midnite, that nite I was back at the hospital for some stronger drugs.  Friday Oct. 2nd. an emergency CT Scan was scheduled in Swift Current and Brian was told to not go anywhere as we might be on the road to Regina that evening.

Couldn’t get confirmation from the specialist Friday evening but Saturday morning, we were told to prepare for trip to Regina……

By midnight Saturday Oct. 3rd, I had emergency surgery – they had wanted to extract the stone in the urthea tube and the 2 in the kidney, but when they tried to explode the smaller stone – it wouldn’t budge so they had to go from the kidney. Upon opening the kidney, they found major infection…..so they just exploded the smaller stone and got out.  I ended up with a tube from my kidney and on high doses of strong antibiotics for the infection.

We knew another surgery was pending for the other two larger stones, but it wasn’t until after seeing the renal scan results which was on Oct. 9th, that the kidney would be coming out.  It was only operating at 20% capacity.  I was pleased to hear this as I tried to have it removed back in May 2004 after 4 months of continual infections.

Getting into surgery took 3 days – and finally Sunday evening (Oct.18th) at 6 pm they came for me and I was back in my room by 12:30.

To know that I will never have to worry about that kidney again is such a relief!!!

Dale Anne – I hadn’t realized you have been in the hospital. I am glad
you are finally in a place where you don’t have to worry about your Kidney any more. It won’t take long before you are feeling better than you ever have.

Best wishes – and good luck with your art work. Shirley

Definitely quite the ordeal but glad you’re well on the way to recovery! It’s a good sign that you are interested in sports, although I’m sure that interest was not far off! Also the sewing of halloween treat envelopes, etc. Way to go! You do have intestinal fortitude and stamina!

Thank you Dale, for sharing this story. So good to know that this is something you wanted. Unfortunate it had to be during this “year for you” but in a way I suppose it fit right in.

Angels be with you Dale in your on going healing process.
gentle hugs
