Art is NOT always perfect! And, at the beginning of this sketchbook project, I decided to just go with whatever I am doing on each page spread, not stressing out about trying to be perfect because its just that A Sketchbook.
Art is about enjoying yourself making something……I am LOVING this whole sketchbook process & trying to stick to a theme.
Don’t forget all the photos on this blog are clickable to make them larger.
This page spread started out with paper towels that I had used to wipe up fabric paint. See – I save EVERYTHING!!! I’m a real scavenger. I glued the paper towel down with gel medium.
I had cut out a raven from a National Geographic long ago – its in my paper bin somewhere. The silhouette from cutting it out was laying on a pile of papers on my cutting table……speaking to me! So, I got out some black Kroma Acrylics, and painted the silhouette. I had made a small stencil for a postcard months ago. I practised on a piece of paper, then when I moved the stencil to the page, it was not situated right…..I noticed after I started. Then, when I stamped, I almost ran out of room – I wasn’t thinking that far ahead! DUH! and the little crows flying – they cover up paint spatter on the edges of the foam alphabet stamps.
So, in-spite of it NOT being perfect I LOVE this page spread!!!
ADDITION:
ArleeBarr inspired me to do the same as her……make an art piece the same as the sketchbook pages, since our sketchbooks will not be coming back to use – they will be the property of Brooklyn Art Library. I went back and made a canvas the same as the above page spread. I found another paper towel similar in colours.
This is an 8 X 10 inch canvas. I haven’t decided what to do with the sides of the canvas, but the top is FINISHED and I LOVE THIS!!!
All the same techniques, just on an artist canvas instead of pages in the sketchbook.

Me 3 likes it also too
I’m so glad I’ll be able to see it in person when it comes to Austin, Dale Anne! Looks yummy.
I love it, too!!
