My 4th and final review of the Saskatchewan Craft Council‘s Dimensions Growth 2008 exhibition opening last Friday at the SCC gallery.
Rod & Denyse Simair’s “Eden” was an award winner – Corrine McKay Merit Award for SCC Members. I have, before Friday, only seen their work in photos……this piece is GORGEOUS! No wonder they have won numerous awards. It looks so delicate, it IS porcelain.
Another award winner – Paula Cooley’s “Creeper”, Award of Excellence in Clay. I must admit that I’ve seen alot of Paula’s work and this is one of the BEST I’ve seen. I LOVE the texture of the piece and the hand formed edges! Even tho this is stoneware, it looks so porcelain like.
Mel Bolen’s piece “Octopus Love” is SUPERB as well, I can only imagine how heavy it is as its stoneware. I am always amazed at the differences in his pieces….a JOY to see!
Anita Rocamora‘s “Sprout I” is another porcelain piece. Its so strong looking, LOVE the colours and the form.
Leon Lacoursiere’s “Jarrah” is a wood hand turned piece. I LOVE the way this piece looks like a clay piece…..the finish he put on it is FABULOUS.
Shelley Kaszefski’s “Body Language” is a SUPERB soapstone carving, and the colouring is so different from soapstone carvings I’ve seen or have in my collection.
G.R. Miskolczi’s “ShowBoat” is a FANTASTIC bronze work. The details on the horse are EXCELLENT.
Mark Porcina’s untitled piece is another artwork I would have liked to touch, run my fingers over the texture. I can only imagine how he hand decorated this piece.
and the final piece……..but NOT the least!
Larry Trask’s “Weed Play” is another soapstone piece with SUPERB carving.
Overall, a FABULOUS exhibition of CRAFT by Saskatchewan artists!!! THANK YOU!
