New Blog Post:

of 52 Questions that is…Weeks 50, 51 and 52.

I have been doing 52 questions for 2 years and I was going to do another year, then I looked at my BUSY schedule for the year and even though, I like the 5 minute art interludes, it will be hard to blog about them steady. I will, however, from time to time post about my journal pages.

Week 50 of 52 Questions prompts us with: The greatest gift. What is the best gift you have ever received or given?

For this card, I started with a piece of cardstock that was an old telephone directory for our town. I tore it into several postcard sizes, then painted gesso or just acrylic paint over the names/numbers. This one was then painted while I talked on the phone to a friend in California – so basically one handed as I didn’t think about the speaker phone feature until after the call. Duh!

I painted the gift first, then outlined in black and wrote on the gift as if the words were already on the wrapping. Then, I did the teal watercolour wash over the whole thing but wiped most of it off the ribbon.

Week 51 asks us: Is there something you see or hear or do, that makes you think straight away about somebody?

For this card, the base was the same as the one above, then I painted on a yellow wash, a green wash and a beige wash, smeared it with a paper towel. I added a leftover piece of scrapbook paper on the left side, then a piece of book text and some leftover tissue a friend has sent.

I drew on the face/head with a regular pencil, wrote the prompt on with a Bic pen and uses a bread tag for the week number. I hand stitched it on with embroidery floss that was handy – should have used white but its done!

I was really pleases with the eye on this one. Will have to play more with this way of drawing and I should be able to get better at drawing eyes then! lol

Week 52 prompt us: ART. There is just so much you can do with this one!

I started with the same base as the others, painted with a purple wash, then glued on bits from a leftover strip of painted paper towel. I made sure the glue was dry, then did a white wash over the whole thing.

I had wanted to do a border like this for awhile and started with that, then the free form ART and the floral doodle. I drew the letters with a pen, then painted the white and outlined with black marker once the paint was dry. The number was from a Sudoku puzzle.

That’s it – that’s all she wrote for this year’s 52 Questions. I may still double think my decision to not do another round in 2012, but for now I will just journal in my altered book.

I have been having FUN on Fridays when Mark Lipinski has been prompting us to make Art and setting it Free into the world – FREE ART FRIDAY! He had a guest on his radio show in early December who talked about this.

My first piece is now in Spain and this one from this past Friday will be starting its journey tomorrow (no mail since).

The base for this was also the torn cardstock from the directory. I did a white wash over it. Then, started the doodling. I’m glad there was World Junior hockey to watch or actually, listen to.

I start out with just drawing the lines across the paper, then the secondary lines before I start the doodling, the more I draw lines, the more the heads appear….LOL!

I doodle a different pattern in each of the segments.

HAPPY NEW YEAR one and all!!!

THANK YOU for reading!

New Blog Post:

Week 48 of 52 Questions prompt is: Ideas. Don’t you love getting a good idea? Tell a story! Share how (or where) you get ideas, a bad idea you have had, anything to do with an idea!

For Week 48, I decided to use up a piece of waxed paper, that I had been using as a palette for the past couple weeks. I turned the waxed paper over, so the paint is actually touching the cardboard instead of on the outside. I doodled the floral sprig, then had the cut out heard pendant sitting waiting to be used….

I decided to write the word “Ideas” as if they were growing….because I am never out of ideas…LOL! I get my BEST ideas during the night sleeping, usually wake up & quickly write them in my bedside notebook. Just a line or a rough sketch is enough until morning when I can expand on the idea or know weeks from now, what I had in mind.

Week 49 prompt is: TIME FLIES!!!

Week 49 started out AWESOME, but then I wrecked her mouth….

The background is paper towel that I had used to spread or wipe up paper.

I saw a face in the background, and used a Pitt marker to start drawing, should have used a pencil to draw the lips. So, I didn’t want to toss this card, I decided to cut a heart from a near by paint chip strip.

So my contrast – I need to practise drawing mouths more….LOL!

Been trying to edit videos for all the upcoming workshops I will be doing in the New Year. One needs to be re-done, I messed up the video (sound crackly). Editing is not too bad, but when you have alot of videos, you get tired of hearing your own voice after awhile..LOL. So, I’ve been taking breaks & making ART.

If you missed it, my Quilted Sketchbook Workshop goes LIVE January 4th – more details HERE.

and

STITCHED workshops – 20 Teachers/20 workshops registration is now OPEN and goes LIVE January 2nd – more details HERE.

New Blog Post:

Week 46 of 52 Questions prompts us: Rejuvenation. What do you do, how do you do it etc!

For last week’s card, I covered a piece of cereal box cardboard with book text. Then, used 3 different colours of purple paint, then covered them all with gesso. Once totally dry, I then had it laid out for doodling. I had some gesso leftover from another project and wanted to use my thumb prints on this card, but they didn’t turn out as I had pictured so turned those areas into flowers – used a pink highliter marker (that was handy here beside the computer) and rubbed some gesso over the whole card with my fingers.

.

Week 47 – Your happy place! Where can you go and be happy? Do you have a special spot somewhere, or will any comfy couch or tree or cafe do it for you? Think of ‘your happy place’ for this weeks card.

For this week’s card, I used the second cardboard I had covered with book text last week. I stamped one of the 5 paisley stamps I carved on Saturday, painted Patina over the whole card Then, I stamped one of the smaller paisley stamps onto the patina paint, then rubbed gesso with a paper towel over the whole card. I printed the prompt on the computer and again used the pink highliter marker that was here at the computer. I rounded the corners on this one and unlike the black edge distressing on last week’s card, this week, I used gesso and my finger.

I will have the final week of Beginner Quilting workshop on Tuesday – the 12 students have done AMAZING!

I have a few samples ready for the Tuesday Tutorial video I will do today and will continue editing the videos for the STITCHED workshop I will be teaching. Registration will open on December 1st…..will have that link for you when available.

Hope YOU all have an AWESOME week!!!
