New Blog Post:

LOL! I had saved up for awhile & bought myself a set of 72 Derwent Inktense pencils….They came and then I just petted them. Finally, I kicked myself into gear and started using them.

Here are some of the fabric postcards I will be taking to Regina this weekend for tHE ART of the Matter exhibit. I will most definately using MORE of those Inktense pencils. LOVING the look – watercolour but intense colour !!!

This first fabric postcard I am calling “Birches #1” (because there will be many more as I LOVE birch trees). I used a sketch that I had done for last year’s Art Camp – for a lesson about perspective and Light & Shadow. On white fabric, I drew with a Pigma Micron pen then coloured with the Inktense pencils. Once I had wet, let dry and heat set, I did a black outline with sewing machine and then quilted using a variegated green thread.

This second postcard I call “Picasso Inspired” – I have always LOVED the way he had done this method of doing faces and I HAD to try it. For the background, I stamped a french script stamp using Timber Brown Staz-On onto the hand-dyed fabric. I drew the faces with my sewing machine, then used Inktense pencils to colour everything except the white of the eyes. I could have made the face thinner, and the lips a little better, but really…..I am happy with it, and will be trying more of these as part of my faces challenge.

The third & last one for today, is this postcard that I am calling “Grids“. This came about when I found another tote (large Rubbermaid one) of scraps and I need to use them up. The squares & rectangle is one fabric scrap that YELLED at me to be used….The base is a hand-dyed fabric that I quilted many lines using different colours of blue, and red threads. The fabric under the commercial fabric is a scrap I brought from Regina (my friend Dean Renwick has the BESTEST scraps!!!) – its a silk of some kind….I don’t pay attention to what fabrics are, I just like how they look….LOL. The squares and rectangle were sewn with a tan thread and the lines continued across the postcard.

So, today is about packing up the car, and figuring out what I’m wearing for tomorrow and maybe finishing more artwork. Hope everyone has a FABULOUS weekend and if you happen to be in Regina, Saskatchewan tomorrow…..would LOVE to have you come & visit us all at the Knox Met. United Church.

New Blog Post:

So HAPPY – today is going to be another STUDIO day!!!

These kind of days seem to have been few & far between lately with all the meetings, so am looking forward to another day of playing.

These are the frames that will all have postcard size pieces in them & then will be available at the local cafe. All the same price and hopefully people will think $50 is not too pricey for pieces of ART! All the frames have to be wiped down, DH found them at Walmart & they are quite dusty. Wonder if they would order me a whole case as this is the perfect size???

I seem to have alot of things in the works right now, some I can’t give details on right now. I will say tho, I am working on hosting a cruise in 2010 – will be talking to the cruise specialist Friday afternoon so hopefully will have more details soon.

Have been trying to do some research on alternative energy, so we will have some options maybe for when the garage is turned into a studio. We don’t have alot of monies to spend so this whole project will be a case of being thriftful & recycling alot of other’s peoples case offs. So, anyone have windows, leftover plywood or boards – brother will make use of them in my studio for shelving, cupboards, etc. The wood he’s going to cut out for the south side windows will be re-used somewhere.

Muslin is being pre-washed right now & then I’ll use it for the dummy jacket that I will take to Regina sometime for Dean Renwick to help me with the fitting. I’m so excited about the possibility of using my artwork on my clothes…..have been doing little sketches ever since my “Diva for a Day” taping. Oh, it will air next week Feb. 10th to the 12th at 3 pm on CBC Regina and then each day’s episodes will be on the Living Saskatchewan website. Will post direct links next week.

Oh, I have to say my niece will be on Living Saskatchewan also – taped over a week ago on her “Shopping for a grad dress” trip. I’m looking forward to that episode also!!!
