New Blog Post:

My oh My the days and weeks are flying past. I have a rough schedule for myself, with the upcoming Highway 1 Studio Tour and some other projects I am working on. I try to work in my studio everyday, but must admit that the 30+ C temperatures makes it hard – my studio is on the second floor and our central AC (probably the pipes) just barely helps up there. I try to do more work up there in the morning and evenings. I have been having an AWESOME time at 1 or 2 am…..LOL!

I am working on NEW to me techniques and LOVING what I am seeing. …….soon, I’ll have some sneak peeks to show and then finished artwork. People coming to the Studio Tour will be seeing NEW artwork compared to what I have been creating and to ME, that is what is EXCITING ME right now. I am LOVING it all!!!

As you know, I’m an art journaler as well, and I have been taking some of the ideas from my journal pages – the ones that EXCITE ME and seeing if I can reproduce the same effect in fabrics. I had made this ATC on the right and I LOVE the text in the background plus the overlay of waxed paper on the top. Stamping text on fabric or printing the fabric, chiffon or organza as the overlay….AWESOME. I haven’t thought through the whole piece (actually there are 3 pieces) in regards to the Sentiment on the front….. They will tell me what they want it on them as I get closer to being finished.

Designs Matters TV (Linda & Laura Kemshall) had a show about spraying fabrics last week and that made my chiffon layers so much easier as I wanted subtle colour shading. I used dye inks in a misting bottle as I still have the spraying tools on my wish list.

So many ideas and so little time!

Hope you all are having an AWESOME week!

New Blog Post:

While I was waiting for some fabric paint to dry so I could add the next layer today, I finished the 8 X 10 canvas to go with the “I’m A Scavenger” page spread in the Sketchbook Project.

For this page spread, I covered the background with insides to all kinds of envelopes that we & Mom get in the mail. They were all black & white patterns. Used gel medium to glue them down & over top.

I then did a light gesso layer, and brushed the green paint (a cheap folk art paint from the dollar store) onto bubble wrap and brayer it down onto the page.

I adapted this feather stencil from Linda Kemshall‘s screenprinting video on their Design Matters TV handout. I forget what I changed on it, but doesn’t matter I like this version! I used Kroma acrylic black paint for the paint. I have to say once you use good quality acrylic paint, its so hard to go back to the cheap stuff…..LOL!

Here is the 8 X 10 canvas.

I did a bigger piece of the bubble wrap on here….

LOVE them both! And, I think this has inspired me to make a version in fabric, but it will have to get into line on my TO DO list.

Don’t forget to go back to the other page spreads to see the canvases I added. I still have to go back & do one like the first page.

THANK YOU for reading!
