Censorship……

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

qhmarchv2blogOn Friday, before I left for Saskatoon, I was catching up on emails and read on the Pickle Road yahoo group (Mark Lipinski’s pickle posse) that the March 2009 issue of Mark Lipinski’s Quilter’s Home magazine is being banned from a major fabric chain of stores in the US……because of that statement on the left side of the cover:

SHOCKING QUILTS: We show you the Controversial Patchwork!

Art quilts that have been out in quiltland for awhile, but were pulled from exhibitions, etc. or rejected period from being able to exhibit them.

One of the art quilts is Randall Cook’s HERE. Click on DETAIL VIEW and see the FABULOUS quilting done on this piece.

The art quilts are no more controversial than someone going to an art exhibit in a museum or gallery.  I think its really stupid that the FABRIC CHAIN decided to ban the magazine……it will be the BEST SELLING issue ever!!!Fools – missing on FABULOUS sales and its even in a plastic wrapper, so no one can accidently open it and be SHOCKED.

Word for 2009….

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Exploration” is MY WORD for 2009!

1) I would like to first of all, EXPLORE new way of eating & exercising so that I will be able to successfully run with the Olympic torch in my hand when the Olympic Torch Relay comes thru Morse in January 2010.

2) Explore more ways to get the word out so that I may be able to TEACH more classes for quilting, stamping, altered art & scrapbooking.  How about YOU getting 5 others together, and I’ll come TEACH for YOU!!!  I have limited openings, so email as soon as possible to BOOK YOUR DATE.  My sewing/quilting classes are listed on my website.

3) Explore new designs for larger quilts & sell the patterns, wish there was a MAC Electric Quilt program….this includes one or two for Mark Lipinski’sQuilter’s Home magazine”.

4) Explore new marketing ideas to promote myself more with potential clients not normally looking for art quilts as part of their art purchases.

5) Explore new ideas for creating a body of work so I can always have a piece to enter thru out the year.

6) Explore new ideas/designs for smaller pieces to sell at our Studio Art Tour in Sept. 2009 and local tourist locations.

7) Explore more ways of living with intent & simply!!!

What is YOUR word for 2009!!!  And, what are your GOALS?

More Inspiration Journal Close Ups…..

Friday, December 12th, 2008

This photo glued into the journal was from a May 2006 “Blueprint” magazine (now ceased publishing by Martha Stewart).
I liked the center design – would make a GREAT quilting design, so would the lower images.
One day when I am stuck for ideas, I can flip thru these journals (have 5 already) and something might spark an idea or quilt design or a quilting design idea.
I have 3 journals that are the same, they are supposed to be for scrapbooking and I had bought them off ebay 3 years ago….I believe I paid more in postage than the actual books, but I like them and need to look for more of them that size. Another journal was a gift from Rose Anne & her sister – its overflowing. The latest one is a sketchbook that DH & I each found while in Toronto last Christmas when our DD took us to her favourite art supply store…….MAN, that was overwhelming! Another story indeed. DH uses his for sketching (he’s gotten back into drawing and painting this past year).
The image on the right….>
was a Jones N.Y. signature ad in Real Simple, October 2006 issue….another GREAT quilting design possibility.
See the little drawing above….that was me sketching out a beading design.

So……I challenge you all to LOOK, to see what is around you. When you think you are stumped for ideas, flip thru a magazine or catalogue and see what you can find. START A INSPIRATION JOURNAL!!!
THANK YOU MARK for printing a couple pages from my journal!

Inspiration Journal Pages….

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Thought I would add close ups of the pages that Mark used in his article in the Jan/Feb issue of his magazine Mark Lipinski’s Quilter’s Home and talk alittle more about WHY I do these, etc.
My Inspiration Journals are places I can just glue all kinds of stuff into……recently I went thru some of Mom’s old magazines & found GREAT colour combinations, or there were vases with GREAT designs on them which would make either FABULOUS lines for quilting or just designs on fabric.
See, the possibilities are endless – you just have to look around!
The above sample was on one of the journal pages – I put yarns and threads between two pieces of used bounce sheets, then free motion quilted over top….I just wanted to see how much you can see once the quilting is done. I had forgotten about this sample & now I just had an idea pop into my head as I was typing this……notes written to self. YES, I keep a notebook everywhere – one beside my bed, beside the computer, on the kitchen table, in my tote bag.
This right sample was actually supposed to be a fabric postcard, but I was alittle ticked at myself for the satin stitching on the bottom, should have used brown there & the background quilting was alittle too loopity loop. Anyway, its a GOOD sample for showing a baby wipe that had been used to wipe ink from a rubber stamp, ironed and then free motion stitched…a January day out my studio window. I usually date my samples & sketches, so I see this one was January 2006.

Quilter’s Home JAN/FEB issue…..

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Just heard from Jean – she received her copy of the Jan/Feb 2009 issue of Quilter’s Home magazine and my sketchbook is in there along with an article about sketchbooks that Mark Lipinski wrote.
Will have to wait until the next time I go to the city to get my copy….
