New Blog Post:

LOL! I had saved up for awhile & bought myself a set of 72 Derwent Inktense pencils….They came and then I just petted them. Finally, I kicked myself into gear and started using them.

Here are some of the fabric postcards I will be taking to Regina this weekend for tHE ART of the Matter exhibit. I will most definately using MORE of those Inktense pencils. LOVING the look – watercolour but intense colour !!!

This first fabric postcard I am calling “Birches #1” (because there will be many more as I LOVE birch trees). I used a sketch that I had done for last year’s Art Camp – for a lesson about perspective and Light & Shadow. On white fabric, I drew with a Pigma Micron pen then coloured with the Inktense pencils. Once I had wet, let dry and heat set, I did a black outline with sewing machine and then quilted using a variegated green thread.

This second postcard I call “Picasso Inspired” – I have always LOVED the way he had done this method of doing faces and I HAD to try it. For the background, I stamped a french script stamp using Timber Brown Staz-On onto the hand-dyed fabric. I drew the faces with my sewing machine, then used Inktense pencils to colour everything except the white of the eyes. I could have made the face thinner, and the lips a little better, but really…..I am happy with it, and will be trying more of these as part of my faces challenge.

The third & last one for today, is this postcard that I am calling “Grids“. This came about when I found another tote (large Rubbermaid one) of scraps and I need to use them up. The squares & rectangle is one fabric scrap that YELLED at me to be used….The base is a hand-dyed fabric that I quilted many lines using different colours of blue, and red threads. The fabric under the commercial fabric is a scrap I brought from Regina (my friend Dean Renwick has the BESTEST scraps!!!) – its a silk of some kind….I don’t pay attention to what fabrics are, I just like how they look….LOL. The squares and rectangle were sewn with a tan thread and the lines continued across the postcard.

So, today is about packing up the car, and figuring out what I’m wearing for tomorrow and maybe finishing more artwork. Hope everyone has a FABULOUS weekend and if you happen to be in Regina, Saskatchewan tomorrow…..would LOVE to have you come & visit us all at the Knox Met. United Church.

THANK YOU for reading!

New Blog Post:

I thought I would show you all the rest of the 6 inch canvases finished….

This first one is “Crocus“, - SOLD drawn lightly with a pencil, then stitched with sewing machine, and then coloured with Derwent Inktense pencils & wet with a small paint brush. Once dry & heat set, I thread painted the stem and leaves. Then, quilted the background.

This second one is “Still Life #1” is drawn with the sewing machine on the pieced background and then coloured with the Derwent Inktense pencils. Again, once dry and heat set, I thread painted the vase and then quilted the background. I have been challenging myself to draw more still lifes and use pencil lines for shadows or accents, so this was what I did with the sewing machine also.

This third one ‘FLY“ was an idea I have had for some fabric postcards….the wings of a dragonfly that I caught a photo of on our window screen a year or so ago.

and the final one for today is the finished “Canadian Prairies #1” . It was drawn completely with the sewing machine, then coloured with the Derwent Inktense pencils. The clouds were painted with acrylic paint.

I am HAPPY with all of them and I wanted to take a sampling of my work so I could get a response. I want to challenge myself to do more sewing machine drawings as I enjoy it.

Its a FABULOUS sunshine day here in the SW of Saskatchewan, wish I could open the doors and windows but someone sprayed some chemical outside today and neither of us can breathe when we are outside and it was coming in with the window open. SAD that people seem to think they HAVE to use the chemicals!!!

NOTE: These all sell for $75.00 and includes shipping.

New Blog Post:

As most of you know, I live on the Canadian Prairies….have most of my 56 (soon to be 57) years. The prairie is what inspires me everyday….and I hope the artwork that I make, people will be inspired by it.

I wanted to use my hand-dyed fabrics that are in the drawer asking to be used….so I wanted simple scenes, scenes that spoke to ME. I love solitude and sitting on a hill looking across the prairies is what I LOVE the most. These 2 pieces of artwork remind me of sitting on a hill near a fence when the crows decide to come for a talk….LOL!

This year, we have alot of water around so it seems to be coming into my sketches….LOL!

This one on the left is coloured with Derwent Inktense pencils, wet and then heat set. The clouds were painted with acrylic paint.

The left piece is all thread painting – except for the crows, which were drawn with a Pigma Micron pen. The cloud area was actually on the hand-dyed fabric which I fussy cut so that it looked like clouds.

Final touches on pieces and Saturday – tHE ART of the Matter will be here before we know it.

HAVE A FABULOUS DAY!!!
